HOT 4K NEWS

CELEBRATING the 25th Anniversary of Gillian Armstrong's (1994) adaptation of Little Women," the beloved modern classic is getting an exclusive 4K/HDR release on digital platforms on December 3. This continues the trend that some prized classics are being released on 4K digital before a possible 4K disc release. Last year Paramount released its holiday classic "It's a Wonderful Life" on 4K/HDR on digital, while the 4K disc was delayed nearly a year later, arriving later this month on Oct. 31.

On Christmas Day Sony Pictures and director Greta Gerwig will release her version of "Little Women" starring Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet, who both starred in Gerwig's highly praised coming-of-age story "Lady Bird." Ronan will play the lead, Jo March, while Chalamet stars as Jo’s best friend and potential love interest Theodore “Laurie” Laurence.

The 1994 movie, released by Sony Pictures, grossed $50 million at the box office and earned three Academy Award nominations. It starred Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst, and Trini Alvarado as the four March sisters. Susan Sarandon plays Marmee, who is left alone to raise her daughters during the Civil War.

The original novel was released in 1868 by American author Louisa May Alcott, who loosely based the story on her own experiences growing up with three sisters in Massachusetts.
