HOT 4K NEWS
AFTER BEING available on digital platforms for over three years Paramount Pictures is releasing “The War of the Worlds” (1953) on a 4K disc, part of the Paramount Present series. The set will also include the doomsday thriller “When Worlds Collide (1951) on Blu-ray.
The 1953 adaptation of H.G. Wells’ acclaimed novel “The War of the Worlds” was released in three-strip Technicolor and was nominated for three Academy Awards and won for Best Special Effects.
“When Worlds Collide” was nominated for two Academy Awards and won for Best Special Effects. Both this film and THE WAR OF THE WORLDS were produced by George Pal, a Hungarian-American animator, director, and producer who was a leading figure in sci-fi filmmaking.

Video - “The War of the Worlds” sourced from a 4K scan on the three-stripped negative (1.37:1 aspect ratio) and mastered in 4K. It will include HDR10 and Dolby Vision grading. “When Worlds Collide” mastered from original film elements – with no details in 4K or 2K.
Audio – It seems the original mono track has been remastered in eight-channel Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD.
