Will the new 30th Anniv. “T2” Best Buy Steelbook feature the right 4K master? – Nov. 23

The Best Buy exclusive 4K Ultra HD Steelbook version

LIONSGATE HOME ENTERTAINMENT has announced the 30th Anniversary Edition of “T2,” with an exclusive Best Buy 4K Ultra HD Steelbook available in the US.

The press release said James Cameron supervised the stunning restored 4K presentation, but that’s the same information we received in 2017 when someone at StudioCanal pulled the wrong 4K master. Cameron had released a 3D version of “T2” in August of 2017 and it required two 4K masters for its stereo projected presentation. One master includes the original clarity and film grain, while the other master was much softer and without any natural film grain.

The previous 4K release is considered one of the worst 4K discs ever produced. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s face had a waxy look – like a toy.

Sadly, the 30th-anniversary edition only includes the Theatrical Cut running 147 minutes. Fans expected the Special Edition with a running time of 153 minutes and Cameron’s Ultimate Cut running 156 minutes.

The new steelbook will feature all-new artwork from artists Orlando Arocena and Tracie Ching.
